Artist Statement

I have always loved exploring the outdoors. The natural world is infinitely full of beautiful and fascinating discoveries. I enjoy studying the shapes and colors of plant life, the characteristics of different creatures, and the complexities of the combination of elements that culminate into unique and diverse environments. My work is highly influenced by my curiosity for the plant life and creatures that exist throughout this planet, and I use the translucent and textural qualities of wax along with elements of drawing to explore these subjects in my work.

I work mostly with 2D paintings, using primarily acrylic, oil, or encaustic paint. I really enjoy experimenting with the effects of layering and incorporating texture into my pieces; both as part of the subject and through the application of the medium. My work explores human perception and focuses on themes of nature, landscape, and place. I particularly try to highlight ignored or disregarded aspects of our environment and the way that we experience or connect with nature and places. The objective is to draw people’s attention to characteristics of our environment that are ignored and to get them to reconsider how they experience nature or the places we inhabit.
